Melrakkaslétta peninsula

Melrakkaslétta is a peninsula located in the northeast of Iceland. The plain is acclaimed for its lakes and rich bird life. At the northeastern tip of the peninsula is situated small village Raufarhöfn. It was a major fish processing station in the 1960´s during the large herring catches. The village with 250 inhabitants is the most northerly community in the country. From Raufarhöfn it is possible to book a sail to take you north across the Arctic Circle. The monument "Arctic Henge", aligned to the heavens and based Eddic poem is under construction in the village.
