Leiðarendi cave

This impressive, more than 900 meters long cave is very easy to reach, because it takes only up to half an hour by car to go there and few minutes to walk to the cave from the road. The entrance to the cave is a small pit in the middle of lava tube, which splits up into two and reconnects making a circle. Even though at some points cave becomes narrow and is collapsed, it's quite easy to navigate. Wonderful lava formations such as stalagmites and lines of lava flow can be seen in a cave. A skeleton of an Icelandic sheep was found deep inside the cave. The age of the skeleton is unknown, but it is possible, that the bones are from the saga period.
