Stefánshellir cave

The cave lies in West Iceland in the lava field called Hallmundarhraun. This lava field was created during the eruption in 930 and contains several large lava fields. Some of them are the largest and deepest caves in Iceland. Stefánshellir is around 1520 meters long and it is only 30 meters away from Surtshellir lava tube and 20 meters away from the cave Hulduhellir, so it is very likely that these caves are actually one cave. Even though the cave has little breakdown and is easy to walk, it is advisable to visit it with an experienced person, because it forks into many directions and is hard to navigate.
