Vatnajökull Glacier

Vatnajökull is the largest glacier in Iceland and one of the largest in Europe. The glacier covers more than 8 percent of the island and is situated in the South - East of the country. Iceland's highest summit Hvannadalshnúkur is on Vatnajökull glacier and it is possible to reach it on foot. Hiking on Vatnajökull glacier is possible trough some of many outlets of the glacier. Svínafellsjökull next to Skaftafell is one of the most popular glacier tongues for hiking and climbing. It is also possible to explore Vatnajökull glacier by snowmobile or super jeep. Amazing ice caves are often formed where ice of Vatnajökull meets geothermal activity zones.
